The Manitowoc County Historical Society will host its annual Civil War Remembered event at the Pinecrest Village and Museum, located at 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, September 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During the weekend, reenactors from across the Midwest will join the historical society to recreate scenes from the Civil War era. Attendees can visit a transformed Pinecrest Village, which will serve as a Civil War encampment. Guests will have opportunities to meet interpreters portraying figures from the past and observe battle reenactments featuring cannons and marching infantry at 1 p.m. each day.

Additional activities include a U.S. Sanitary Commission Fair and demonstrations in historic trade shops and homes that highlight efforts on the homefront during the war period. Food and beverages will be available for purchase onsite.

Admission prices are set at $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, $10 for youth ages 4-17, with free entry for children under four years old. Members of the Manitowoc County Historical Society receive free admission. Tickets can be purchased upon arrival or pre-purchased online through ManitowocCountyHistory.org. On Sunday, September 28, scouts aged 18 or younger who attend in uniform will receive free admission.

A special evening program is planned for Saturday night, September 27—a Civil War Evening Lantern Tour and Dance from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., led by historical interpreters dressed in period attire. The tour includes stories from both front lines and homefront perspectives and concludes with an opportunity to participate in a Civil War-era dance. Advance registration is required for this portion of the event.

“Join the historical society and reenactors from across the Midwest to step beyond the history books and the battlefield and onto the homefront to connect with the people, stories, and ideas that link Manitowoc County, Wisconsin to America’s greatest conflict – the Civil War,” organizers stated.

“Pinecrest Village is transformed into a Civil War encampment where guests can meet famous figures of the past and experience firsthand a turbulent time period in our nation’s history. Join reenactors as they stage a battle complete with raging cannons and marching infantry,” according to event information provided by organizers.
