Organizers of the Sheboygan Film Festival (SFF) have announced that two local venues, The Black Pig and The Berkshire, will serve as official sites for special events during the festival’s first edition, which is set to take place from October 2 to 5, 2025. Both venues are located on 8th Street in Sheboygan, across from the Weill Center.
“The Black Pig and the Berkshire are two wonderful examples of what Sheboygan has to offer,” said Beah Travis, Founder and Executive Director of Belladonna Film Project and Chair of the SFF Committee. “We’re very proud to share these venues with our visiting filmmakers and all who come to Sheboygan for the film festival.”
The Black Pig will host a dinner for filmmakers on Thursday evening. On Friday night, The Berkshire will hold a “Sips and Cinema” event, which pairs wine and food with film screenings. Wines served at this event will be sourced from countries where the featured films were produced.
Rob Hurrie, chef and owner of The Black Pig, opened the restaurant in 2013 with an emphasis on hospitality and high-quality food made from scratch. The restaurant aims to provide an experience that appeals to food enthusiasts, wine lovers, and families.
“For Rob and his team, it's not just about the service or the food. It’s about hospitality! Anticipating their needs, customizing their requests, and making people feel at home,” said Nikki Rieck, a marketing consultant for Power Up who works with the venues. “The film festival is an opportunity to do something for the community that will showcase what we have to offer. It will be great for area visitors, but just as important it will offer some exciting events for our local customers.”
The Sheboygan Film Festival is organized by Belladonna Film Project, a nonprofit focused on independent filmmaking in the Midwest. The annual event is open to filmmakers worldwide but emphasizes regional independent projects. Its program includes dramatic features, documentaries, short films, children’s programming, filmmaker conversations, panel discussions, and other activities highlighting both filmmakers and Sheboygan.
The Berkshire banquet space was opened by Hurrie in 2017. It spans 10,000 square feet with its own kitchen and features exposed beams and cream city brick.
