Manitowoc Public Library announces lineup of adult programs for September

Manitowoc Public Library has announced its schedule of adult events for September 2025. The library will be closed on Monday, September 1, in observance of Labor Day and will resume regular hours on Tuesday, September 2.

Throughout the month, the library is offering a variety of programs for adults and teens. The September Writing Challenge encourages participants to write daily during the month. Those who complete their tracking calendar can submit it for a prize, with a grand prize awarded to the writer with the most words.

Employment assistance and career counseling will be available every Tuesday from 9 AM to 4 PM through onsite Department of Workforce Development staff. Services include resume writing help, job application support, and individualized employment planning. Career counseling appointments can be made by contacting Ellen Hope at the Department of Workforce Development.

Genealogy help sessions are scheduled every Tuesday from 3-5 PM in partnership with members of the Manitowoc County Genealogical Society. Drop-in Chess Club meets Wednesday, September 3, from 6-7:30 PM in the Balkansky Community Room for those interested in improving memory and concentration through chess.

On Monday, September 8, Open Sew and Badging sessions will take place at two times for individuals aged 13 and older to learn about sewing machines or work on personal projects. Registration is not required but space is limited.

A Mini Job Fair co-hosted by Wisconsin Job Service will occur on Tuesday, September 9, from 1-3 PM in the Balkansky Community Room. Space to Write sessions are scheduled for Tuesdays, September 9 and 23, from 5:30-7:30 PM as an opportunity for writers to work together in a supportive environment.

A yarn painting workshop organized by Lakeshore Foster Families is set for Thursday, September 11. Participants’ artwork may be featured at Foster the Arts fundraising event supporting foster families.

A no-cost skin cancer screening event will take place Monday, September 15, from 11:30 AM to 1 PM for adults ages eighteen and older. The screenings are co-sponsored by Froedtert & The Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Network and Forefront Dermatology along with Manitowoc Public Library.

The Idea Box makerspace hosts several badging sessions this month: Glowforge laser engraver training on Tuesday, September 16; Prusa Core One 3D Printer training on Wednesday, September 17; and Cricut Maker crafting machine training on Tuesday, September 30. These sessions require registration due to limited space.

A Volunteer Fair inviting local organizations seeking volunteers is planned for Wednesday, September 17 from 2-5 PM in the Balkansky Community Room. Interested groups should contact MPL’s Volunteer Coordinator Lisa Devins-Horohoe to reserve table space.

"Tales from the Taproom," an adults-only storytelling event sponsored by Seehafer News returns Wednesday evening at PetSkull Brewing Company’s outdoor beer garden focusing on stories that happened outdoors.

Book lovers can join an Adult Book Discussion featuring "James" by Percival Everett on Thursday evening followed by "Paranormal Wisconsin—Tales of Ghosts, UFOs & Mysterious Creatures" presented by Chad Lewis later that night.

Local model train enthusiast Leon Sigman leads “Miniature Locomotives, Mighty Memories!” discussion with examples displayed on Thursday evening in late September.
