Manitowoc Public Library has announced a series of programs for teens and adults in September 2025. The library will be closed on Monday, September 1, in observance of Labor Day, with regular hours resuming the following day.

Teens aged 11 to 18 can sign up for the new Shelf Care subscription boxes between September 1 and September 15. Each box includes three books, a snack, a toy or art project, and stationery. The theme for September is "Scare Me!" Participants must return the box and books but may keep the other items. More information and registration are available at www.manitowoclibrary.org/teen-book-boxes.

The library is also hosting a writing challenge from September 1 to September 30 for teens and adults. Participants can pick up a tracking calendar at the front desk and are encouraged to write daily throughout the month. Completed calendars can be returned after September 30 for prizes, with a grand prize awarded to the writer who produces the most words.

A Drop-In Chess Club is scheduled for Wednesday, September 3, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM in the Balkansky Community Room. The club welcomes participants aged six and older; children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.

On Monday, September 8, Open Sew and Badging with Betty will take place in two sessions (2:00-3:00 PM & 6:00-7:00 PM) in the Idea Box. Anyone aged thirteen or older can attend to learn about sewing machines or work on their own projects.

Writers seeking dedicated time and space can join Space to Write on Tuesdays, September 9 and 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM in the Franklin Street Room.

The Foster the Arts Yarn Painting Workshop will be held Thursday, September 11, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM in partnership with Lakeshore Foster Families. Artwork created during this session may be featured at Foster the Arts events supporting foster youth programs.

Also on Thursday, September 11 (6:00-7:30 PM), Teen Hang-Out will feature "On the Table—Gamestormer," where participants design games with guidance from board game creator Jon Spike via Zoom.

A Volunteer Fair is set for Wednesday, September 17 (2:00-5:00 PM), inviting service groups needing volunteers as well as individuals interested in volunteering opportunities within Manitowoc organizations.

That evening (September 17), there will be a Prusa Core One 3D Printer badging session from 5:00 to 6:00 PM in the Idea Box. Registration opens Monday, September 8 at www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/3d-printer-badging-session-24118. This program is open to those aged fourteen or older; minors need parental consent forms completed onsite.

On Thursday, September 25 (6:00-7:30 PM), Leon Sigman and guests will lead "Miniature Locomotives, Mighty Memories!", discussing model trains' history as collectibles in Manitowoc Public Library’s Balkansky Community Room.
