Manitowoc Public Library has announced its schedule of children’s programs for September 2025. The library will be closed on Monday, September 1 in observance of Labor Day and will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, September 2 at 9 a.m.
Baby Storytime is set for Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m., offering stories, songs, rhymes, parachute activities, and bubbles for children ages 0-2. Preschool Storytime follows at 10:30 a.m. on the same days, focusing on early literacy skills such as counting, colors, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet for ages 2-5. Both storytimes are inclusive and do not require registration.
The Drop-In Chess Club will meet on Wednesday, September 3 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Second Floor Balkansky Community Room. All skill levels are welcome to participate; chessboards will be provided but no formal instruction is offered. Children under age eight must be accompanied by an adult.
A sensory-friendly SENSE-sational Baby Storytime is scheduled for Tuesday, September 9 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., designed for babies who may find traditional storytimes overstimulating. Group size is limited to twelve participants.
Family Activity Nights (FANs) continue on Tuesday evenings with various activities for families. Specific events include a Kitty Party on September 9 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., where Lakeshore Humane Society will bring adoptable kittens to the library. Families can sign up for one fifteen-minute time slot starting August 26 at 5 p.m.
Another event, Pinch Pot Monsters!, takes place on September 23 from 6 to 7 p.m., allowing children ages five to eleven to create clay monsters. Registration opens September 9 at www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/pinch-pot-monster.
The Foster the Arts: Yarn Painting Workshop will be held Thursday, September 11 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., in partnership with Lakeshore Foster Families. Artwork created may be featured at Foster the Arts fundraising event supporting foster and kinship families.
Messy Marvins is scheduled for Friday, September 12 from 10 to 11 a.m., offering art stations for babies through preschoolers.
Read to Certified Therapy Dogs returns Tuesday, September 16 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., providing registered participants with one-on-one reading sessions with therapy dogs. Registration opens at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2 by phone or in person at the Youth Services Department.
Children under age eight must be accompanied by an adult during all programs.
