The Manitowoc County Historical Society will host its annual Civil War Remembered event at the Pinecrest Village and museum, located at 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, September 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During the two-day program, reenactors from across the Midwest will recreate scenes from the Civil War era. Attendees can observe battle reenactments featuring cannons and infantry, meet historical figures portrayed by interpreters, and learn about how local residents contributed to the war effort. Battle reenactments are set for 1 p.m. each day.

“Join the historical society and reenactors from across the Midwest to step beyond the history books and the battlefield and onto the homefront to connect with the people, stories, and ideas that link Manitowoc County, Wisconsin to America’s greatest conflict – the Civil War,” organizers stated.

Pinecrest Village will be converted into a period encampment for this event. Food and beverages will be available on site.

Admission prices are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, $10 for youth ages four through seventeen, while children under four enter free. Members of the historical society receive free admission. Tickets may be purchased upon arrival or in advance. On Sunday, any Scout aged eighteen or younger who attends in uniform will be admitted without charge.

A special ticketed Lantern Tour and Dance is planned for Saturday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., requiring advance registration. “Feel like part of the encampment as period dressed historical interpreters lead you by lantern light through the camps and village - hearing true stories from the front lines and the Homefront. You’ll also make a stop at the Civil War era dance. You can be a wallflower or join in the fun!” according to organizers.

The Manitowoc County Historical Society operates a living history museum on sixty acres in eastern Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine countryside. The museum features more than twenty-five historic buildings that represent early twentieth-century life in Wisconsin communities. Pinecrest Historical Village began in 1970 following a land donation by Hugo and Eleanor Vetting.
