The Manitowoc County Historical Society has announced a series of events scheduled for September at its museum and Pinecrest Village, located at 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc.
The month’s activities begin with the Mid-Lakes Agricultural Fair and Thresheree on September 6 and 7 from 10 am to 4 pm. The event, held in partnership with the Mid-Lakes Rustic Iron Club, will feature threshing demonstrations, farm equipment displays, and other agriculture-related presentations reminiscent of fairs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. General admission applies.
On Sunday, September 8, the museum is offering free admission to members of youth agricultural organizations. Individuals arriving in their 4-H or FFA uniforms, jackets, or group t-shirts will receive complimentary entry along with their group leaders.
A tram tour of Pinecrest Village is set for Saturday, September 13 between 11 am and 1 pm. The guided tour will last about two hours and requires advance registration.
Community Craft Night takes place on Thursday, September 18 from 5 to 7 pm at MCHS. Attendees are invited to bring their own craft projects and meet other artisans. Each session includes an item from the society’s archives for inspiration. Admission is free.
An A&W Share Night fundraising event will be held on Wednesday, September 24 from 4 pm to 8 pm. Ten percent of proceeds during this period will support the Manitowoc County Historical Society.
Civil War School Day is scheduled for Friday, September 26. Students can participate in living history stations that highlight stories from both the battlefield and homefront during the Civil War era. Advance registration is required; fees apply.
A Family Blacksmithing Workshop runs on September 27 from noon to 3 pm. This workshop allows adults to work alongside children as they learn blacksmithing techniques in a historical setting. Registration in advance is required; there is a fee.
The “Civil War Remembered” event occurs over two days: Saturday, September 27 (10 am–4 pm) and Sunday, September 28 (10 am–3 pm). Reenactors will transform Pinecrest Village into a Civil War encampment with staged battles featuring cannons and infantry marches. Visitors can also engage with interpreters sharing local perspectives on how the war affected Manitowoc County residents.
On Saturday evening (September 27), lantern tours led by historical interpreters dressed in period attire offer insights into local Civil War journals followed by a Civil War-era dance. Tours begin at either 6 pm or 6:15 pm; advance registration is necessary and fees apply.
Scout Sunday concludes the month’s programming on Sunday, September 28 from 10 am to 3 pm. Scouts aged eighteen or younger who attend “Civil War Remembered” in uniform receive free admission.
