United Way Manitowoc County’s Women United group has announced DollyWalk, a new fundraising event to support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program. The walk will take place on Saturday, September 13, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. along Mariners Trail in Manitowoc. Participants can check in starting at 8:00 a.m. at the Manitowoc Yacht Club parking lot, with the walk beginning at 9:00 a.m.
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library provides free books to children from birth to age five, aiming to foster early childhood literacy. Funding for the program comes from both Dolly Parton and local affiliates such as United Way.
Registration for DollyWalk is $32 in advance and $40 on the day of the event. Children aged five and under can participate for free. The first 50 registrants will receive a complimentary “Dolly” wig. Bundles of “Dolly Wood” are available for $5 each and can be reserved during registration or purchased at the event.
The event features several activities including a storyboard presentation of “The Little Engine That Could,” a train and Dolly cutout photo booth, and complimentary snacks. Attendees are encouraged by Women United to dress like Dolly Parton.
Registration is available in person at United Way’s office located at 33 E. Waldo Blvd., Suite 2, Manitowoc. Office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
