The GameBoard, a game store located in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, is inviting the public to participate in "Wizards and Wands," an event designed to introduce table-top role-playing games (TTRPGs) to new players. The event will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Participants at "Wizards and Wands" will have the opportunity to create their own spells, select wands, and face a dragon as part of the experience. The goal is to provide an accessible introduction to role-playing games while encouraging creativity and imagination.

“This is a perfect opportunity for players of all ages to experience the magic of role-playing in a fun and welcoming setting,” said Lynn Potyen, owner of The GameBoard. “We love events that encourage storytelling, creativity, and connection. This one checks all the boxes.”

The event is open to families, friends, and anyone interested in fantasy games regardless of prior experience with TTRPGs. Attendees are encouraged to bring their imagination.

The GameBoard was established in 2006 by Lynn Potyen after her son was diagnosed with a severe speech delay. Potyen found ways to connect his therapy with games played at home. Since then, research has indicated that playing games together can support creativity, communication skills, socialization, emotional development, and cognitive learning abilities.

Potyen has become an advocate for using board games in education and therapy settings as well as corporate team building. She contributed her perspective as part of an anthology published in 2023 titled “What Board Games Mean to Me,” which features voices from around the world.

Those interested can visit The GameBoard at 621 N. 8th Street in downtown Sheboygan or call (920) 453-4263 for more information.
