Manitowoc Public Library has announced its lineup of Teen Services programming for August 2025. The schedule includes a variety of activities aimed at teens and families.
The first event, "Teen Hang-Out: Wild Side Selfies!", will take place on Friday, August 1, from 1-2 PM in the Balkansky Community Room. Participants can take selfies with different backdrops and reptile co-stars, with a trained handler present to ensure safety. Photo sessions are limited to five minutes and operate on a first come, first served basis.
On Tuesday, August 5, from 6-7:30 PM, the library will partner with the Manitowoc Police Department for National Night Out. This event is part of an annual initiative that encourages community engagement and police partnerships to help make neighborhoods safer. Activities include crime prevention information, child ID kits, meeting local officers, viewing police and fire vehicles, K9 and drone demonstrations, as well as visits with local 4-H members and their animals.
A collaboration with the Wisconsin Maritime Museum brings "Shipwreck Detectives" on Wednesday, August 6, from 2-3 PM. Attendees will explore Lake Michigan’s shipwrecks through hands-on activities designed to teach maritime archaeology techniques.
Also on Wednesday, August 6 (from 6-7:30 PM), there will be a Drop-In Chess Club session for participants aged six and older. Chessboards are provided but formal instruction is not available; children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.
On Friday, August 8 (2-3 PM), "Teen Hang-Out: Sundae Funday!" offers teens a chance to enjoy ice cream with various toppings. Registration is required due to food allergy considerations; sign-up opens at noon on July 25 via the library’s website at www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/sundae-funday.
A free movie screening of "A Minecraft Movie" (2025) starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black is scheduled for Saturday, August 9 from 10 AM to noon in the Balkansky Community Room.
Finally, "Go Wild at the Library!" takes place Wednesday, August 13 from 2-3 PM. Zookeeper Vicki Rathsack will bring animals from Lincoln Park Zoo for an educational presentation where attendees can learn about—and interact with—various creatures.
These programs aim to provide learning opportunities and entertainment for teens in Manitowoc throughout August.
