Manitowoc Public Library has announced a schedule of children’s programs for August 2025. The events aim to provide educational and recreational activities for families in the community.

The month begins with “Storytime on the Road” at the Rahr-West Art Museum on Friday, August 1, at 10:00 AM. Families with preschoolers are invited to participate in stories, songs, and an art activity led by museum staff. In case of bad weather, the event will move indoors. Storytime is recommended for children ages 2-5, but siblings are welcome. All storytimes are inclusive, and children under eight must be accompanied by an adult.

On Tuesday, August 5 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, Manitowoc Public Library will host National Night Out in partnership with the Manitowoc Police Department. This annual event focuses on building relationships between law enforcement and residents. Activities include learning about crime prevention and family safety, making child ID kits, meeting police officers, seeing police and fire vehicles up close, K9 and drone demonstrations, as well as visits with local 4-H members and their project animals.

Baby Storytime sessions will be held Wednesdays (August 6 & 13) and Thursdays (August 7 & 14) at 9:30 AM. These sessions include stories, songs, rhymes, bounces, parachute activities, bubbles, and playtime for babies ages 0-2. Preschool Storytime follows on those same days at 10:30 AM for children ages 2-5. Both programs are inclusive; registration is not required but both will take a short break from August 17-30.

On Wednesday, August 6 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM in the Balkansky Community Room, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum will present “Shipwreck Detectives.” This all-ages event introduces participants to maritime archaeology techniques through hands-on activities that explore Lake Michigan’s shipwrecks.

Later that evening on August 6 from 6:00 to 7:30 PM is Drop-In Chess Club at MPL’s Second Floor Balkansky Community Room. The club welcomes players of all skill levels ages six and up; chessboards are provided but no formal instruction is given.

A special screening of “A Minecraft Movie” (2025) starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black will take place Saturday morning on August 9 from 10 AM to noon in the Balkansky Community Room. Admission is free.

Finally, Zookeeper Vicki Rathsack from Lincoln Park Zoo will bring animals to “Go Wild at the Library!” on Wednesday, August 13 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM in the Balkansky Community Room. Children can learn about various creatures and interact with them during this session.

All events emphasize inclusivity and parental supervision requirements for young children remain in effect throughout each program.
