The Manitowoc County Historical Society has announced a range of events and workshops scheduled for August 2025 at its museum and Pinecrest Village, located at 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc.
Activities begin with a Summer Garden Tour on Wednesday, August 6, exclusively for members. The tour will focus on heirloom gardens and discuss topics such as vegetables, herbs, harvesting, and garden maintenance.
On Thursday, August 7, the Society will host a free Teacher Workshop from 9 am to noon. The program is designed to help educators integrate local history into their curriculum using the Society’s collections and resources. "Educators will learn about ways to incorporate MCHS’ collections, our historic Pinecrest Village, and stories of our local history into their curriculum." Advanced registration is required.
A Family Blacksmithing Workshop follows that afternoon from noon to 3 pm. The session allows adults to work alongside children learning traditional blacksmithing techniques through hands-on projects. There is a fee for this workshop and advanced registration is necessary.
The Hometown History Expo takes place on Saturday, August 9 from 10 am to 4 pm. The event connects visitors with local museums, historians, historical societies, and genealogy groups. General admission covers entry to the expo as well as archives-themed workshops throughout the day. "Our Hometown History Expo connects museum visitors with their local small museums, town historians, historical societies, and genealogy groups."
Also on August 9 is an Items for the Home Blacksmithing Workshop from noon to 3 pm. Participants can create items such as dinner triangles or candleholders under close instruction in small class sizes.
Other scheduled events include a Tram Tour of Pinecrest Village on Friday, August 15; Triumph and Tragedy: Evergreen Cemetery Historic Walking Tour on Wednesday, August 20; Blacksmithing Basics workshop on Thursday, August 21; and Community Craft Night on July 21.
The Manitowoc County Historical Society operates a living history museum set in Eastern Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine region. It features over 25 historic buildings representing early Wisconsin communities. Since its founding in 1970 following a land donation by Hugo and Eleanor Vetting, Pinecrest Historical Village has grown to reflect the architectural styles and community life of early twentieth-century Wisconsin.
