The Plumbers & Steamfitters UA Local 400 union has made a donation of $25,000 to the Lakeshore College Foundation. This contribution is intended to establish a scholarship fund aimed at supporting students who are pursuing careers in welding or heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC).
Dr. Paul Carlsen, President of Lakeshore College, expressed appreciation for the union's dedication to workforce development. "We appreciate the ongoing commitment the Plumbers & Steamfitters UA Local 400 union has to workforce development. This new scholarship fund will directly reduce financial barriers for students and make it easier for more individuals to pursue careers in welding and HVAC, both of which are high-demand fields," he stated.
Students enrolled in programs related to HVAC installation, welding fabrication, and industrial welding can apply for these scholarships through the AwardSpring app available in their student portal. The college offers these programs through its competency-based education format, allowing students flexibility in starting dates and enabling them to complete their courses within two terms.
