Unity has announced the receipt of a $2,500 grant from The Door County Community Foundation. This funding, provided through the Mental Health Support Fund, will support Unity's Understanding Grief Group, which meets monthly at the ADRC of Door County.
Jenny Boeckman, Unity Grief Services Director, expressed gratitude for the grant: "A heartfelt thank you to The Door County Community Foundation. This funding enables Unity to offer residents of Door County who are grieving a safe place to connect with others as well as learn coping tools and insights as they navigate their personal journey through grief."
Boeckman highlighted that this initiative aligns with the mission of Door County Government by promoting mental health awareness and education. She stated that "grief support reduces social isolation, invites connection, and gives individuals the tools they need to thrive." She emphasized that by investing in grief support for county residents, both individuals and the community become stronger.
The Understanding Grief Group is held on the last Wednesday of each month from 1:00-2:30 pm at 916 N. 14th Ave, Sturgeon Bay. It is facilitated by a licensed grief counselor and offers an open space for those grieving to share experiences and find hope. Unity’s Paw of Comfort pet therapy dogs also attend to provide additional comfort.
Participation requires registration via phone or email with no charge for attendance.
