John Wyatt, the Chair of Lakeshore College’s District Board of Trustees, has been elected as the president of the Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association. His one-year term will commence on July 1.
Wyatt's involvement with Lakeshore’s Board began in 2017. He served as secretary/treasurer from February to July 2021 and later as vice chair from July 2021 to June 2023. In 2023, he assumed the role of board chair and is also a member of the IT Advisory Committee.
Lakeshore College President Dr. Paul Carlsen expressed his support for Wyatt's new role: “We congratulate John on his appointment to the Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association. His wealth of knowledge will serve him well in this capacity. John’s expertise and perspective has been an asset to Lakeshore College’s District Board and will now serve as a bridge between activity at our college and the state level.”
The association serves as a statewide platform for trustees from community-based technical colleges in Wisconsin. It focuses on collaboration, learning, idea-sharing, and advocacy among its 144 district board members across the state's 16 technical college districts.
Wyatt stated, “I’m honored to serve as president of the Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association. I look forward to working alongside other college board members to advance community and technical education across Wisconsin.” He added that his main goals include enhancing collaboration among all 16 colleges within the system and providing educational opportunities for board members.
Lakeshore College educates over 9,000 students annually, offering career skills training and pathways toward bachelor’s degrees. The institution is recognized nationally for its educational excellence, with various accolades including rankings by Washington Monthly, Forbes, WalletHub.com, and others.
Approximately 800 students graduate from Lakeshore each year with associate degree graduates reporting a median salary of $61,355 within six months post-graduation. The college operates campuses in Cleveland, Manitowoc, Sheboygan, and additional sites throughout its district.
