The Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village will host a World War I Encampment on May 31 and June 1. The event, located at 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, will run from 10 am to 3 pm each day. It is supported by A.C.E Building Service, Jim Reif Builders, Nelson Business Development, and Seehafer News.

Visitors can explore camps representing American, British, German, Russian, and Ottoman forces to learn about their roles in the Great War. Activities include camp kitchens, weaponry displays, and information on the Red Cross. There will also be a display focusing on Manitowoc County during World War I. Attendees can discover more about their WWI relatives and the units they served with.

During World War I, Manitowoc County sent over 2,300 soldiers from its population of 45,000. Company H of Manitowoc became part of the 127th Infantry of the 32nd Division after training in Texas. Locally, residents supported the war effort through various contributions from factories including shipbuilding and aluminum industries which produced ships and mess kits for overseas use.

Admission costs $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, $10 for youth aged 4 to 17 years old while children under age four receive free entry. Members of MCHS also enjoy free admission. For further details about the encampment event contact (920) 684-4445 or visit ManitowocCountyHistory.org.

The Manitowoc County Historical Society is located in Eastern Wisconsin's Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside. It features a living history museum spread over a scenic 60-acre area with local history exhibits at its Welcome Center along with research services available onsite. The outdoor Pinecrest Historical Village includes more than 25 historic buildings furnished with period items reflecting early settler life in Manitowoc County.

Established in 1970 through land donated by Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family members; Pinecrest Village has developed into a representation of an early-1900s Wisconsin community showcasing various architectural styles significant to state history alongside original or well-researched reproduction furnishings used by interpreters there.
