Manitowoc Public Library has announced a series of events for May 2025, targeting a wide range of interests and age groups as part of its Teen Services programming.

The Comic Book Day 2025 Bookmark Art Contest kicks off the events. Participants are encouraged to create unique bookmark designs using various materials, such as markers and glitter. The completed bookmarks need to be submitted by 5 PM on May 1 for inclusion in a display on Comic Book Day, which is set for May 3. The contest is open to all ages, with prizes awarded to top selections in specific age categories.

Comic Book Day, celebrated on May 3, features activities such as a free comic book giveaway, scavenger hunt, costume contest, and more. Highlights include a focus on the 75th Anniversary of the Peanuts comic strip by Charles Schulz. A virtual workshop with cartoonist Justin Thompson will also be held.

Thompson, recognized for his work as a senior artist at the Charles M. Schulz Studio and for his web comic MythTickle, will conduct a workshop to discuss his professional career and provide a tutorial on drawing facial emotions. This in-person event requires early attendance due to limited seating.

On May 7, the Drop-In Chess Club offers an opportunity for chess enthusiasts of all ages to improve their skills. This event will take place without formal instruction, though library resources and chessboards are available.

Teen Hang-Out: ArtLab—#MPLRocks! on May 8 invites attendees to paint rocks, which can then be hidden around Manitowoc for others to find. Supplies will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Open Sew and Badging with Betty, scheduled for May 12, offers assistance and badging on sewing machines in the Idea Box. No registration is required, but only those aged 13 and older can participate.

Space to Write is available to writers seeking a creative environment on May 13 and 27. The Franklin Street Room will be open for all levels of writers, providing various writing-related activities and inspiration.

Lastly, on May 15, the online event MPL Insider: Beyond the Books will feature discussions on the upcoming Summer Reading Program. Michael Perry, a New York Times bestselling author, will join as a guest speaker to discuss his appearance in June at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay: Manitowoc Campus Theatre.
