The Manitowoc Public Library has announced a variety of adult events scheduled for May 2025. Among these, a Comic Book Day celebration with a bookmark art contest will take place through May 1, with voting on May 3 during the Comic Book Day festivities. "Everyone who comes to the Library that day can vote for their favorites!" reads the event information.
On Comic Book Day itself, activities will include a "Free Comic Book Giveaway," scavenger hunt, costume contest, raffle prizes, and a virtual workshop with cartoonist Justin Thompson. "All ages are welcome," with children under eight required to be accompanied by an adult.
For those interested in cartooning, Justin Thompson will also conduct a virtual workshop at the library, though it will not be livestreamed, and seating is limited.
In May, the Department of Workforce Development will provide employment assistance every Tuesday, and the Manitowoc County Genealogical Society will be on hand to aid with genealogy research.
A Drop-In Chess Club is slated for May 7, inviting participants to improve their skills. On May 8, adults can attend "Tales from the Taproom," a storytelling event at PetSkull Brewing Company. "No props, no notes," the press release says. People can join just to listen or to share stories.
Betty, the resident sewing enthusiast, will host Open Sew and Badging on May 12. The same day, Space to Write invites authors to gather and share ideas. Meanwhile, Glowforge badging sessions offering training on laser engraving will be available on May 13 and 16.
The library will also host learning sessions for the Libby app and a yoga class titled "Cats on Mats" with Kate Casey, requiring registration. The month wraps up with cooking insights in the "At the Market with Andrew" event on May 31, dependent on weather conditions.
