Residents and visitors of the Manitowoc area will have the unique opportunity to experience the diverse cultural and historical offerings of six local organizations during the "Member Swap Weekend," set for May 15-18. The event allows members of participating museums to explore each other’s facilities at no additional cost.
The participating entities include the Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center, the Manitowoc County Historical Society, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum, Hamilton Wood-Type & Printing Museum, The Rahr-West Art Museum, and Woodland Dunes Nature Center and Preserve. Members are advised to check the specific visiting hours for each museum as they vary by organization. Admission policy requires showing a membership card, and the number of free admissions is contingent on the membership level.
Each museum brings its unique attraction to the table. The Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center offers interactive agricultural education including a birthing barn. The Manitowoc County Historical Society presents a collection of historic structures on 60 acres, showcasing the county's past. The Wisconsin Maritime Museum, noted for being the Midwest's largest maritime museum, features the restored WWII submarine USS COBIA amid other historical exhibits. Hamilton Wood-Type & Printing Museum is home to the world's largest collection of type, displaying the evolution of printing methods. The Rahr-West Art Museum invites visitors to explore a combination of art exhibits housed in a Victorian mansion, including works by Picasso, O’Keeffe, and Warhol. Woodland Dunes Nature Center and Preserve offers 1,500 acres of wildlife habitat, recognized globally for its environmental significance.
Members with family memberships should ensure that each family member presents a card for free admission. However, additional charges may apply for specific experiences beyond standard entry.
