This year, Earth Day marks its 55th anniversary on April 22. The event, organized by earthday.org, encourages everyone from individuals to government leaders to join in efforts to protect the environment.
Goodwill North Central Wisconsin (NCW) has been part of this movement since 1971, focusing on sustainability. Their stores contribute to a circular economy by encouraging donations and shopping, which helps divert an average of 35 million pounds of items from landfills annually. This volume is enough to fill approximately 875 semi-truck trailers.
"One of our guiding principles at Goodwill NCW is being good stewards of the communities’ resources," said Chris Hess, President and CEO of Goodwill NCW. "Sustainability is fundamental to our business model as we partner with our donors and shoppers to extend the life of items for responsible stewardship of the planet's resources."
To make contributions more accessible, Goodwill NCW recently opened a relocated Howard Donation Center on Velp Avenue northwest of 41. This allows donors in the area to conveniently drop off gently used items. The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new location, organized with the Green Bay Chamber, is scheduled for Monday, April 28, at 10:30 am.
Media are invited for interviews, as well as photo and video opportunities at the event. The new location offers ease and convenience, promoting further community involvement in environmental sustainability.
