Erickson named next Roncalli High School head boys basketball coach

Roncalli High School, part of Roncalli Catholic Schools, is pleased to announce that Joshua Erickson has been named as head boys basketball coach. He also will teach physical education at the high school.

“I am pleased to welcome Josh Erickson as a teacher and coach to the Roncalli Community,” said John Stelzer, president of Roncalli Catholic Schools. “I have confidence that he will work well with our students and athletes, and continue the proud tradition that we have had at Roncalli in the boys basketball program. In our discussions, our search committee felt he was a good match for our program, and that he would represent our school as a person of faith and service while emphasizing the core values of hard work, teamwork and community.”

Erickson, a 2014 graduate of Roncalli, fills the vacancy in the boys basketball program created by the departure of former coach Joe Garceau. He was the assistant varsity coach for Brookfield East High School in Brookfield, Wis. since 2020.

“I’ve been fortunate to have many people in my life, especially in the Roncalli community who have provided examples of what it means to be a great teacher and coach,” Erickson shared. “I teach and coach to be a servant-leader to others in hopes of helping them to be successful. There is little that fulfills me greater than watching students grow and reach their goals.”

In addition to being a two-sport athlete in football and basketball during his time at Roncalli, Erickson went on to become a cum laude graduate from Concordia University in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Marketing. He was a two-year captain of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Concordia University men’s basketball team, making a 2015 tournament appearance. Erickson also was part of the 2015 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) championship-winning team. He appeared in 99 career games, averaging a career 18.2 minutes per game and 7.2 points per game. Erickson received NACC Conference Player of the Week honors in the 2018 season.

He most recently taught at the elementary and middle school levels at Messmer Saint Mary with Messmer Catholic Schools in Milwaukee, Wis. as a math specialist. Erickson designed and implemented a school-wide structure for math intervention.

Erickson will begin his duties with Roncalli Catholic Schools later this fall.
