The Sheboygan Theatre Company (STC) is set to offer a series of summer theatre training workshops from July 22 to July 24, 2025. This initiative, supported by the Wisconsin Arts Board’s Creative Communities Grant, aims to provide hands-on training in performance skills for individuals aged 16 and above. The workshops will be held at the Leslie W. Johnson Theatre on the Horace Mann Middle School campus in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
Tricia Roberts, Executive Director of STC, expressed enthusiasm about the program. “Offering these workshops, as a way for anyone in our community to build new skills, connect with professionals, and grow creatively, is an exciting effort that is one to celebrate,” she said. Roberts highlighted the role of arts in strengthening communities culturally and personally. “The arts play a vital role in strengthening our community, not just culturally, but personally. These opportunities build confidence in both youth and adults and demonstrate the real impact theater can have.”
Roberts also emphasized making arts accessible within the community. “The answer isn’t to scale back—it’s to show up even more,” she stated. “We need more arts in our community because they bring out the best in us. Theater helps build stronger, more confident individuals—young and old—and creates connections that make our community more vibrant, creative, and resilient.”
The workshop series includes three specialized sessions led by distinguished theater educators:
- On July 22: "Introduction to Unarmed Stage Combat" will be conducted by Michael Daehn from Ball State University with assistance from Brandon Otten.
- On July 23: "The Room Where It Happens: Auditions Workshop" will be guided by Abi Charbonneau focusing on successful audition techniques.
- On July 24: "You’ve Got the Part—Now What? Acting Workshop" will be taught by Sheila Ryan emphasizing actor tools like improv and active listening.
Participants can register for individual workshops or opt for a discounted combo package including all three sessions. Registration details are available at https://www.stcshows.org or through the Sheboygan Community Recreation Department.
Founded in 1934, STC operates as a non-profit organization with a volunteer-run structure serving Sheboygan and its surrounding areas.
