Senator Eric Wimberger, a Republican representing Wisconsin's 2nd Senate district since 2025, has recently used social media to express criticism of Governor Tony Evers regarding the closure of veterans' homeless shelters. In a series of posts, Wimberger accused the governor of political maneuvering and urged him to use available funds to keep the facilities open.

On September 12, 2025, Wimberger posted: "Governor Evers can use funds already at his disposal to keep two veterans' homeless shelters open, but is choosing to shut them down to attack his political opponents. I sat down with @WBAY to discuss my letter calling on the Governor to do the right thing and keep these".

Two days later, on September 14, he reiterated his stance in another post: "Governor Evers must do the right thing and use funds he already controls to keep our veterans' homeless shelters open, not use our military heroes for his political gain. Joined the Ben Yount Show on @newstalk1130 to discuss how the Governor's bad math is being used to hurt our".

In a separate message on September 14, Wimberger reflected on state heritage: "Recently, I ran into the restoration of a small piece of Northeast Wisconsin here in the Capitol. Each of Wisconsin's 72 counties is honored here in the Capitol to remind us in the Legislature of the communities back home that we are privileged to serve."

Wimberger was elected in 2025 after replacing Robert Cowles as senator for Wisconsin’s 2nd district. His recent comments highlight ongoing debates over funding priorities and care for veterans within state government.
