Five students from Sheboygan North High School have completed community-based projects as part of the 2024-2025 Innovator Fellowship program. The initiative is a partnership between North High School and the Lakeland University Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. It aims to encourage students to address real-world issues and explore career options outside traditional classroom settings through project-based learning.

Students participating in the program work one to two hours each day at Jake's, A Lakeland Community, located at 529 Ontario Ave., Sheboygan. There, they develop and implement their projects with guidance from mentors and staff from Lakeland University.

The Innovator Fellowship program will continue at North High School this fall and will expand to include Elkhart Lake, Kohler, and Roncalli high schools in Manitowoc. Lakeland University also plans further expansion for the 2026-2027 school year. Interested schools can contact if@lakeland.edu for more information.

“We are excited to introduce the Innovator Fellowship program to a new group of students this fall,” said Stephanie Hoskins, Lakeland’s Herbert Kohler & Frank Jacobson Chair in Business and Entrepreneurship.

“Our five North High students this past school year showed how young people can tackle a variety of ways to make a positive impact in our community. It’s exciting to expand that opportunity to more students throughout the region.”

Participants earn college credit for their projects, which can be transferred to most universities.
