George H. Brickner died on August 12, 1904, in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. He was 70 years old. Brickner was a German immigrant who arrived in the United States as a child. His family first settled in Ohio. As a young man, Brickner moved to Sheboygan County and opened a general store in Cascade. Later, he became a partner in the Sheboygan Falls Woolen Mills. Over time, he bought out the other owners and became the sole owner. His mills grew to be important to the local economy. Brickner also purchased other mills and businesses related to wool and glass manufacturing. He entered politics as a Democrat. He served as town treasurer and later as president of Sheboygan Falls. Brickner was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Wisconsin’s 5th district from 1889 to 1895. He worked on local projects like harbor improvements. He also helped establish the first Catholic church in Sheboygan Falls, St. Mary’s. Brickner died suddenly of a heart attack near his mill. His business and political work left a lasting impact on the city and the region.
