Senator Eric Wimberger has recently addressed several policy issues in Wisconsin through a series of posts on social media. His comments focused on the allocation of state funds, the management of correctional facilities, and legislative action concerning environmental protections.
On July 11, 2025, Senator Wimberger stated that the new state budget will redirect much of what he described as "the Governor's illegal $175 million slush fund" toward statewide funding priorities. According to Wimberger, "$115 million for statewide childcare initiatives
$50 million for a grant program under the state's Building Commission
$5" would be allocated under this plan.
In a post dated July 12, 2025, Wimberger criticized Governor Tony Evers’ decision regarding the Green Bay Correctional Institution (GBCI). He wrote that "Governor Evers chose to veto plans to close GBCI by 2029.
GBCI can be closed with proper population management, but Governor Evers rejected that plan and is not interested in solving this issue.
There's a better path forward for Northeast Wisconsin's public safety than". The GBCI is one of Wisconsin’s oldest prisons and its closure has been debated due to concerns about costs and conditions.
On July 13, 2025, Senator Wimberger expressed appreciation for Representative Dan Knodl’s support of his PFAS framework legislation. In his words: "Thanks to Rep. Dan Knodl for supporting my PFAS framework legislation.
We need to adopt innocent landowner protections so victims of pollution aren't held responsible for contamination they didn't cause." PFAS chemicals are an ongoing concern in Wisconsin due to their persistence in water supplies and associated health risks.
Additional information for Step 3: The PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) framework mentioned by Senator Wimberger addresses contamination from industrial chemicals found throughout Wisconsin’s water systems. Efforts at both the state and federal level have aimed at protecting communities from exposure and ensuring accountability among polluters rather than landowners who did not cause the contamination.
