The Cheese Capital Festival returned to Plymouth for its third year, drawing crowds on Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28. The event kicked off with the Road America Car Parade featuring elite race cars from the Trans Am Series and Optima Ultimate Street Car Competition. Spectators had the opportunity to meet drivers and view the cars up close in Stayer Park.
Saturday's events began with a cheese-themed parade showcasing over 30 floats from local businesses. Highlights included a performance by the Sheboygan North High Drumline and appearances by Mill Street Live and Grand Marshal Courtney Booth.
Post-parade activities at Stayer Park featured family-friendly entertainment such as a DJ, bounce houses, face painting, and mascots like Captain Curd from Masters Gallery Foods. The Mac & Cheese Contest saw Big Billy’s BBQ win Judge’s Choice for their Burnt Ends Mac, while Antoinette’s took home the People’s Choice Award for Pot Roast Mac & Cheese.
A new addition this year was special cheese-inspired dishes created by food vendors. At 1 p.m., Matt Magle defended his title in the Cheese Eating Contest sponsored by The Big Cheese. He emerged victorious for the third consecutive year.
The day also included a Cheese Wedge Race down Mullet River with cash prizes awarded to winners. Throughout the festival, attendees could listen to Cheese Talks presented by industry experts on various topics related to cheese production and storage.
Entertainment continued with performances by Mill Street Live, Sister Winchester, and Brady Lee closing out the festival.
Event sponsors included Masters Gallery Foods, Sargento, Sartori, and Great Lakes Cheese. Photos from the event are available on Facebook.
