Mayor's Message

Speaker

City Of Cuba City issued the following announcement on Nov. 30

The city received two awards for the Presidential Plaza on November 10th.  There were representatives from UW Platteville, AARP of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), and the Wisconsin Rural Partners.  After a short program and presentation of the two awards in city hall, a tour of the plaza was conducted by Bob Jones, Cuba City Economic Development Director.  The revitalized plaza is an area for people of all ages to have a place to visit with each other.  No city funds were used to complete the Plaza project.

The movement of street salt from the old shed to the new shed is taking place.  Our first street salting of the season took place on the morning of Saturday, November 27.  You may have noticed heavier salt deposits in some areas.  Our neighboring counties turn around on our streets and deposit much salt that we have to clean up.  Our salt spreader also needs some adjustment.  The Waste Water Treatment Plant had an alarm system fail and several feet of waste water flooded the basement.  Quick action by George Morrissey and Chad Bennett prevented major expenses.  The water department found and repaired a water main break on County H and have generally located another one but it is in a plastic pipe so the exact location is not determined at this time.

The Plan Commission met and adopted a recommendation to repeal the provisions of Strategy 1, Action 2 on page 75 of the Comprehensive Plan 2020-2040.  This has to do with residence living on the first floor in a B1 district.  This now goes to the City Council for adoption.

The Community Development Commission (CDC) met and is recommending in favor of the engineer’s plan for the new subdivision layout which include a cul-de-sac.  Currently the CDC is working on a covenant for the subdivision.

Spring elections will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022.  Nomination papers and details may be obtained from Jill Hill, city clerk.

Recently I gave a talk to third graders at St. Rose School.  They are studying government and had some questions.  The questions were hard and I am glad I don’t work for them!

The Main Street Christmas lights were put up.  The Cuba City Chamber filled the pots with Christmas decorations.  Our community will celebrate with a special Christmas Glow Parade on Saturday, December 11 at 6pm with many activities to follow.  Everyone is invited!

On behalf of the City of Cuba City, I extend my warmest regards and best wishes to everyone in our city.  May the spirt of this wonderful season be with you and your loved ones throughout the holidays with many blessing in the New Year.
