Aurora Medical Center Manitowoc County issued the following announcement on Sept. 8
Advocate Aurora Health officials held a construction ceremony Wednesday for its planned medical center and medical office building in the Village of Kohler. The $324 million project is planned to offer services including women’s and children’s health services, cardiovascular, sports health/orthopedic care, surgery, wellness services, behavioral health and a wide offering of primary care services. The facility will include a large medical office building where patients will have convenient access to their physicians for follow-up appointments and clinic visits.
“For nearly a century, our current hospital, Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, has been an integral part of the Sheboygan community and served us well, but as communities evolve, so too do their needs,” said Carrie Killoran, executive vice president, Advocate Aurora Health. “Now is the time for a new facility to create greater access to care for our growing communities we serve. The new medical center will continue to allow care to be kept here in the Sheboygan area.”
Contributing to that effort is Sheboygan-based Acuity Insurance, which was recognized for its $2.5 million donation to Aurora Health Care Foundation. The contribution is the largest single donation that Aurora has ever received. “Acuity Insurance has been a strong and vocal champion of our new medical center and we are humbled and honored by their generosity,” said Killoran.
“We live here. We work here. We want to support our community, and we want to be sure everyone has the best place to go for care to help you and your loved ones,” said Ben Salzmann, president and CEO of Acuity Insurance.
The site is on 56 acres along Interstate 43 north of Acuity Insurance and south of the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan. Advocate Aurora Health will lease the property from Kohler Co. Because of its pivotal role in the location of the new facility, Kohler Co. was recognized by Advocate Aurora Health for partnership and shared vision for the community.
“Kohler Co. is a valued partner and supporter of this project,” said Killoran. “We knew we had common ground with them in our shared passion and commitment for a healthy Sheboygan County.”
Construction on the new Aurora Medical Center Sheboygan County began in June. It will include a 345,000-square foot medical center and a 115,000-square foot medical office building and is expected to open in 2022.
