FOIA Request to Manitowoc County Regarding Access to Public Records on October 7, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at EC Wisconsin News have formally requested access to public records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq.
The specific request was for a list of FOIA logs sent to Manitowoc County from January 1, 2024 till October 7, 2024. The requested fields include the requester's name and organization, content of the request, date of the request and its completion date, as well as the status of the FOIA.
As media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals. We eagerly await Manitowoc County's response and will keep our readers updated on any developments.
