Citywide Storm Damage Update: Public Assistance Needed

H

City of Sheboygan issued the following announcement. on June 23.

June 23, 2022

FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT:

City of Sheboygan – Department of Public Works

Phone: 920-459-3440

The Department of Public Works crews continue to make progress on the clean-up efforts as a result of the major storm on June 15, 2022.  The DPW crews have been working long hours cleaning up storm damage trees and will continue their operations for several more weeks.  The operation has now shifted from emergency response to debris management and systematic clean-up.

This phase of the operation will involve several different actions.  Clean-up of debris on streets and public terraces, removal of damaged trees, removal of stumps in areas of lifted or damaged sidewalks.  The DPW is asking for resident assistance in aiding in the clean-up efforts.  The public can aid the department in the following ways:

Please refrain from parking your cars near or adjacent to piles of tree debris. This will allow crews and equipment to quickly maneuver and collect in storm damage areas.  If you are able to park off the street, this is the best option for allowing access to the debris.

Please be aware that roads may be closed, without advanced notice, to facilitate tree removal. For the safety of the crews, please do not drive around barricades or cones.

Please help us by not adding private tree damage to the side of the road. The storm on June 15, 2022 has resulted in over 800 addresses documented with City street trees and branches that need to be cleaned up.

Please use the drop-off site at 2026 New Jersey Avenue, hours have been extended – and will remain open except for Sunday, June 26 from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in order for crews to clear the site and grind the pile of tree debris.

Please be aware that the department will not be picking up branches from private trees.

With your help, DPW should have most storm damage concerns addressed by the week of July 18th.  If you still have a concern at that time, please call the DPW office 920-459-3440 to report it.

Please contact the DPW office via the website www.sheboygandpw.com for reporting any tree issues.
