Green Tier 2021 Report & Call for Sustainability Task Force Members

City of Sheboygan issued the following announcement on April 13.

At the Common Council meeting on March 21, 2022, the Council adopted a resolution to reestablish the Sustainable Sheboygan Task Force and they also adopted a resolution to approve the Green Tier Legacy Communities 2021 Annual Sustainability Report.

City of Sheboygan originally established a Sustainable Sheboygan Task Force (SSTF) in May 2008. The SSTF met for a number of years, but as of the 2018-2019, no members were appointed to it. The resolution adopted on March 21, 2022 is reorganizing the SSTF such that it will be comprised of 12 members, each of whom shall be a resident of the City, to be appointed by the Mayor and approved by the Common Council. That the purpose of the Sustainable Sheboygan Task Force shall be to study and make recommendations to the Mayor, Common Council, and city staff regarding strategies to be adopted by the City for creating and maintaining a sustainable Sheboygan, focusing on such topics as conservation, sustainability, clean water, climate change, and raising community awareness on environmental stewardship, that will result in cost savings and reduced consumption of resources throughout the City of Sheboygan.

City residents are encouraged to apply to be a committee member

The City of Sheboygan is a member of the Green Tier Legacy Communities Charter since 2013.  One of the requirements of being part of the charter is submitting an annual sustainability report. The Department of the Planning and Development has served as the city department that works with the charter on sustainable goals for the city. The department in partnership with the Department of Public Works puts together the annual report on sustainability accomplishments. The areas of focus that are highlighted in this report follows the areas of focus provided by the Green Tier Legacy Charter. They include transportation, energy, water, waste, land use, and community. More information can be found in the report.
