Collaborative Tree Restoration Project Initiates Planting of First 100 Trees
Nine Sheboygan public parks will receive trees as part of multi-phase project to combat Emerald Ash Borer
November 4, 2021 – The Sheboygan Rotary Club, the City of Sheboygan, Sheboygan County, and Alliant Energy are teaming up to plant the first 100 trees of a multi-phase restoration project for nine public parks in Sheboygan. On Saturday, November 6, Mayor Ryan Sorenson will welcome volunteers and staff to initiate the project launch, announce a significant gift, and begin restoring trees lost to Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) at Optimist Park. The effort is also one of Alliant Energy’s first tree planting events to kick off the company’s “One Million Trees” initiative announced earlier this year.
The Sheboygan Rotary Club’s Restoration Of Our Trees Sheboygan (ROOTS) initiative was created in 2018 to combat the devastation of public forests throughout the county caused by EAB. The initiative supports continued planning and implementation of tree restoration efforts in parks and natural areas to further promote a healthy ecology for the future.
Alliant Energy collaborates with organizations that focus on public forest restoration and preservation, like the Sheboygan Rotary Club’s ROOTS initiative, to create dedicated tree planting efforts in communities and rural areas across Wisconsin and Iowa to meet their goal to plant 1 million trees. Each of the trees planted over the next 10 years represents one of the customers the utility company serves.
As the trees grow, they will provide a natural habitat for wildlife, reduce greenhouse gases, improve water quality – and make the future a little greener for generations to come.
