FOIA Request Sent to Sheboygan County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 30, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Sheboygan County Election Department on October 30, 2024. The request, issued by EC Wisconsin News, sought details about the methods used for counting ballots in the upcoming elections.

As part of our commitment to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at EC Wisconsin News requested this information under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq. Specifically, we asked for a list of methods they are using to count ballots. If any of these methods involve manual counting, we also requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities as journalists. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as media professionals.

We are awaiting a response from the Sheboygan County Election Department and will keep our readers updated with any developments.
