The Sheboygan Theatre Company is preparing to celebrate Independence Day with a unique theatrical event, “Freaky 4th of July: MISCAST,” on July 4th at Fountain Park’s Band Shell. The performance, directed by Abi Charbonneau and sponsored by an unnamed entity, will begin at 11:30 AM before the community parade.

Executive Director Tricia Roberts described the production as a “unique theatrical experience that truly embodies freedom of expression.” Roberts added, “This production celebrates breaking boundaries and showcases the joy of artistic exploration. Our talented cast of 16 performers will create a vibrant, high-energy experience that turns tradition on its head while reminding us all that theater is about possibility and imagination.”

The event promises a morning filled with musical theater where performers take on roles they wouldn’t typically play. It includes numbers from past favorites such as Mary Poppins and Legally Blonde, along with previews from the upcoming season like Mamma Mia!

Director Abi Charbonneau shared her enthusiasm for the event, stating, “There’s something magical about watching performers step outside their comfort zones and embrace roles they’ve always dreamed of playing. This miscast celebration is all about artistic freedom and the joy of performance. It’s bold and exciting, full of surprises and heart, and perfectly captures the spirit of independence we celebrate on the Fourth of July.”

Charbonneau has an extensive background in theater arts across various organizations including New York City Ballet and Brooklyn Acting Lab. She also founded the Emerging Artist Project which provides accessible theater workshops to students in Sheboygan County.

The performance is free for all attendees. For further information, interested parties can contact the Community Recreation Department at 920-459-3773.

Founded in 1934, Sheboygan Theatre Company remains a volunteer-run organization serving Sheboygan and nearby areas through its multi-generational community theatre programs.
