Senator Eric Wimberger, who represents Wisconsin’s 2nd Senate district, has recently addressed both Martin Luther King Jr. Day and ongoing legislative efforts to address PFAS contamination in the state through a series of posts on his social media account.
On January 19, 2026, Wimberger called for reflection on Martin Luther King Jr. Day by quoting Dr. King’s famous words: “On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, let’s all commit ourselves to ensuring that people ‘will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
The following day, January 20, 2026, Wimberger highlighted upcoming legislative action regarding PFAS pollution: “Tomorrow, our landmark PFAS legislation will be heard in the Assembly Committee on Environment. This legislation will deliver relief to municipalities suffering from PFAS across the state, and ensures that innocent landowners and communities can clean up pollution they didn’t”.
On January 21, 2026, he reported on his participation in the committee hearing: “I testified on our landmark PFAS legislation before the Assembly Committee on Environment earlier today. With a new amendment coming after months of collaboration between stakeholders, local community leaders, and the DNR, I’m more confident than ever that these bills will help”.
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are synthetic chemicals found in various consumer products and have become an environmental concern due to their persistence and potential health effects. Efforts to regulate and remediate PFAS contamination have increased across many states as communities seek relief from water and soil pollution.
Wimberger was elected as a Republican to the Wisconsin State Senate in 2025 for the state’s 2nd Senate district, succeeding Robert Cowles.
