Roncalli Middle School in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, is set to stage Disney’s The Lion King JR. at Roncalli High School. The performances are scheduled for Friday, February 28 at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 1 at 6 p.m., and Sunday, March 2 at 2 p.m. This adaptation of the well-known Broadway production and the 1994 Disney film involves more than 60 middle school students.

“Students are excited to perform The Lion King JR.,” stated Dan Berres, choir director at Roncalli Middle School. He highlighted the challenge posed by singing in languages such as Xhosa, Zulu, and Swahili: “Singing in another language while trying to convey the story is difficult, but the students are doing an excellent job!”

The musical follows Simba’s journey as he navigates adulthood and his destiny as king. Characters like Nala, Timon, Pumbaa, and Scar add depth to this tale that includes songs from the original film such as “Hakuna Matata” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”

Performances will take place in Zimmer Auditorium at Roncalli High School located at 2000 Mirro Drive. Tickets are priced at $5 with general admission seating available.
