The Manitowoc County Historical Society is offering a unique educational opportunity for homeschool families and other groups with a themed field trip focused on Wisconsin’s immigrants. Scheduled for April 24, the “Our Wisconsin” field trip invites participants to engage in various interactive activities that highlight the lives and traditions of the state’s early immigrants.

Students and teachers can expect an immersive experience, which includes interacting with a storekeeper, experiencing a blacksmith’s forge, setting up a Civil War camp, and participating in pioneer household activities. Through these hands-on experiences, participants will learn about the immigration stories and ethnic traditions that shaped these communities.

The program is part of a series of themed field trips offered throughout the year by the Manitowoc County Historical Society. Upcoming themed trips include “The Long Road to Freedom and Emancipation” on June 19, “Civil War School Day” on September 26, and “History of Communication” on October 23. All field trip programs require advanced registration.

Additionally, the history society offers a variety of educational experiences, making it a notable destination for those interested in an alternative educational environment. More information can be found on their website, ManitowocCountyHistory.org, or by calling (920) 684-4445.

Established in 1970, the Manitowoc County Historical Society features a 60-acre museum that includes the Pinecrest Historical Village. This village, initially formed through a land donation by the Hugo and Eleanor Vetting family, aims to represent a small Wisconsin community from the early 1900s. It includes over 25 historic buildings that embody the commercial, social, and political essence of a historic town. The buildings and furnishings in the village are either original or carefully researched reproductions, enhancing the authenticity of the experience.
