The Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village will host a Holiday Open House on November 15 from 11 am to 3 pm at 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc. The event aims to showcase how residents in Wisconsin prepared for winter around the turn of the 20th century.

Visitors can walk through the historic buildings of Pinecrest Village, observing demonstrations such as candle making, food preservation, meat smoking, sewing winter clothing, and blacksmithing. According to the organization, “Get into the holiday spirit when you visit our historic structures of Pinecrest Village! Prepare for winter yourself by taking part in a special Create-Connect workshop, help townspeople get into the holiday spirit, and shop the Museum Store. It’s the perfect family activity to kick off the holiday season!”

Workshops requiring advanced registration are also available from noon to 3 pm. These include a blacksmithing session where participants can craft a candy cane and another focused on sewing mittens inspired by late 19th-century patterns.

A catered dinner styled after a 19th-century meal will be served at the historic Meeme House during the event. Registration is required for this meal, which also covers general admission.

General admission costs $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, and $10 for children ages four to seventeen; children under four enter free. Members of the Historical Society receive complimentary admission. More information about this event and other programs can be found at https://www.manitowoccountyhistory.org/.

The Manitowoc County Historical Society operates as an interpretive museum on a 60-acre site in eastern Wisconsin’s Kettle Moraine region. Its facilities include more than twenty-five historic buildings that illustrate local history through original artifacts or carefully reproduced items.
