The Manitowoc County Historical Society in Wisconsin offers an interactive experience that brings history to life for students and teachers. Visitors can engage in activities such as bartering with a storekeeper, experiencing the heat of a blacksmith’s forge, setting up a Civil War camp, playing pioneer games, and participating in farm chores.

The society provides various educational opportunities tailored for K12 classrooms, homeschool families, and others seeking unique learning experiences. Besides classic tours, themed field trip days are organized throughout the year for smaller groups and homeschoolers.

The first themed event of 2025 is “History Detectives,” scheduled for Thursday, February 27 from 10 am to 2 pm. Participants will navigate different stations using clues and resources to solve historical mysteries by taking on the role of a museum archivist.

Additional themed field trips planned for this year include “Our Wisconsin” on April 24; “The Long Road to Freedom and Emancipation” on June 19; “Civil War School Day” on September 26; and “History of Communication” on October 23. All programs require advanced registration.

More information about these opportunities is available at ManitowocCountyHistory.org or by calling (920) 684-4445.

Located in Eastern Wisconsin’s Ice Age Kettle Moraine countryside, the Manitowoc County Historical Society is a living history museum. It spans 60 acres and includes the Pinecrest Historical Village—a collection of over 25 historic buildings representing early Wisconsin community life. Established in 1970 with land donated by Hugo and Eleanor Vetting, Pinecrest Village showcases several architectural styles from Wisconsin’s past through original pieces or carefully researched reproductions.
