Lakeshore College in Cleveland, Wisconsin, has been reaccredited by the American Welding Society (AWS) as one of only four accredited welding test facilities in the state. The college initially received its accreditation in 2020 and has since issued 159 AWS certifications to welders from Wisconsin and other regions.

David Saunders, a certified welding educator and weld test conductor for Wisconsin, highlighted the importance of this accreditation: “Serving as an AWS accredited test facility for Wisconsin and outlying states fills a need among employers and adds another layer of welding certification available at our college.” He noted that many employers opt for in-house or state-level certifications when international AWS certification is not required. Saunders reported that nearly 300 certifications have been granted across all levels over the past 18 months.

The AWS is internationally recognized for its certification programs within the welding industry. Possessing an AWS certification can lead to increased earning potential and greater career opportunities for welders worldwide.

Lakeshore College, previously known as Lakeshore Technical College, educates over 9,000 students annually with a focus on real-world skills applicable to careers or further education. The institution is nationally recognized, having received high rankings from Washington Monthly, Forbes, WalletHub.com, and others. Approximately 800 students graduate each year from Lakeshore College’s various campuses located in Cleveland, Manitowoc, Sheboygan, and additional district sites.
