Historic artisans from the Midwest will gather at the Manitowoc County Historical Society Museum and Pinecrest Village for the Maker’s Market on June 28 and 29. The event, located at 924 Pinecrest Road in Manitowoc, will feature a range of craftspeople showcasing their skills and offering hands-on experiences for visitors.
The market will operate from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 28 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 29. Attendees can expect demonstrations of blacksmithing by the Upper Midwest Blacksmith Association, pewter crafting by Sheldon Pewter, brain tanning, cobbling and leatherwork, Rosemaled art, letterpress printmaking by Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum, Fraktur calligraphy, historic carpentry and woodwork, wooden shoe carving by Luke’s Lost Arts, wool and cotton spinning, loom weaving, natural fiber dyeing, bobbin lace making, quilting, displays by Hidden Valley Farm and Woolen Mill as well as Spence Rigging and Canvas. Other attractions include broom-making by Little John and exhibits by the Midwest Tool Collectors Association along with other demonstrations including Krueger Sawmill.
The market will also highlight traditional skills of First Nations and Indigenous people. Live music performances are scheduled with Plymouth High School’s Junge Kameraden playing on Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon and Milwaukee-based group Frogwater performing on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Maker’s Market is designed for all ages with additional activities such as Lowe’s Little Maker’s area where families can engage in building projects or play early 20th-century games. Food options include Rawlz Dawgz food truck available on Saturday and CC’s Steaks and Cakes on Sunday.
Admission prices are set at $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, $10 for youth aged four to seventeen while children under four years enter free of charge. Members enjoy free admission while non-members can purchase tickets either upon arrival or in advance through ManitowocCountyHistory.org.
The program receives support partly from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funding from the State of Wisconsin alongside contributions from Fricke Printing Service, Seehafer News, Bank First as well as national backing via the National Endowment for the Arts.
