April marks both the arrival of tax season and National Financial Literacy Month in the United States. This annual observance is described by Jumpstart.org as “a nationwide, collaborative endeavor marked by a variety of activities and events across the country and throughout the month of April.”

Goodwill North Central Wisconsin (NCW) is taking part in this national effort, aligning financial literacy with its mission of “Elevating People by Eliminating Barriers to Employment.” The organization recognizes financial challenges as significant obstacles to achieving financial stability for many people. According to statistics from the World Economic Forum, financial literacy in the U.S. has remained around 50% for eight consecutive years, despite a 2% decline in the past two years.

To assist those seeking financial literacy improvement, Goodwill NCW provides a range of services. These include personal and bankruptcy counseling, practical budgeting guidance, and assistance with navigating student loans. Wendy Patzlaff, Manager of Mission Operations at Goodwill NCW, stated, “Goodwill NCW financial counselors can help people be smarter with their finances, which can make a huge difference in their future. We understand that financial wellness is a journey, and we can help individuals achieve their goals and dreams.”

During April, Goodwill NCW is participating in Money Smart Week – Fox Cities. This public awareness initiative aims to enhance individuals’ financial knowledge across various demographics. Among the events offered is a Planning for College Simulation, organized in collaboration with Goodwill NCW.

The overarching message is that improved financial literacy can result in enhanced financial stability and long-term success. More information about the financial wellness services offered by Goodwill NCW can be found on their website.
